Colon Cancer
There are approximately 146, 970 new colorectal cancer cases per year in the US1. Of these, about 1% are due to a hereditary form of colon cancer, whose hallmarks include loss of expression of DNA repair proteins². In sporadic colorectal cancers, about 10-15% of patients exhibit microsatellite instability as well². Recent studies suggest that testing for mismatch repair protein expression may provide prognostic and therapeutic information²⁻³. BioImagene’s algorithms for the mismatch repair biomarkers of MLH1, MSH2, MSH6 and PMS2 are an aid to pathologists and researchers in the detection and quantitation of stained cells in colorectal tumors. BioImagene also offers an algorithm for quantification of EGFR in colorectal tissues.
