Quality Control
Quality control (QC) in anatomic pathology is an important clinical activity. Most practices have policies that require a certain percentage of signed-out cases to be picked randomly and reviewed by a second pathologist to ensure quality control. Digital pathology is a useful tool for intra facility and multi facility pathology review. Digitized cases can be randomly selected and peer reviewed without having to wait for the slides and the reports to be physically retrieved. The digitized case can allow a QC system to hide the original sign-out pathologist and the original diagnosis, thereby minimizing the biases associated with traditional second reads. Digital slides available over networks can mitigate the problems of glass slide logistics and ensure uniform quality and high standards across a practice.
