Ajit Singh, PhD Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Ajit Singh is recognized as an expert in both the future of radiation oncology and the role of IT in today's health care environment.
Prior to joining BioImagene, his most recent position was as CEO of the Image and Knowledge Management Group of Siemens Healthcare, headquartered in Erlangen, Germany. As the CEO, he had the global responsibility for a portfolio of businesses, including medical image management business, the imaging software platform business, the computer aided diagnosis (CAD) business and an incubation-stage knowledge.
From 2001 to 2006, Ajit was the President and CEO of the Oncology Care Systems Group of Siemens Medical, headquartered in Concord, California. Under his leadership, Siemens Oncology was transformed from a linear accelerator business into a comprehensive oncology solutions business - gaining market share, and establishing itself as the innovation leader, while adding many new products to its portfolio. Prior to this, Ajit held the positions of Group Vice-President of the e.health Business division, responsible for the e.Business portfolio of Siemens Medical, and Vice President of the Siemens Health Services, where he led the company's consulting services practice and picture archiving and communications systems (PACS) business.
Before transitioning to these business responsibilities, Ajit spent several years in R&D and academia. He spent six years at Siemens R&D in Princeton, responsible for research in the areas of robotics, artificial intelligence, computer vision, image processing, cognitive sciences, and applications such as surveillance, automation, cardiology, and oncology. Ajit also served as an adjunct faculty at Columbia University and Princeton University.
Ajit is a popular speaker in the MedTech, imaging, life sciences, healthcare information systems, and healthcare economics communities, as well as in history, philosophy, and business management. He has published two books and numerous refereed articles, and holds five patents. He has a PhD in Computer Science from Columbia University, a master's degree in computer engineering from Syracuse University and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Banaras Hindu University, India.
Steve Barbee, Vice President of Sales - International and Government
Steven currently serves as the Vice President of Sales for International Market and Government Affairs. Steven has organized sales teams and developed sales strategies within the life sciences, telecommunication, and Internet-related industries for over 20 years. Steven leads our efforts with international distribution and government sector strategies. From October 2006 to March 2009, Steven served as our Vice President of Sales leading our sales team to over 100% annual sales growth.
From August 2003 to September 2006, Steve was Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Trestle Corporation, where he led a global sales team which sold digital imaging and telemedicine applications to the life sciences customers. From December 2001 to August 2003, Steve led a private business consulting firm focusing on sales, marketing, and operating efficiency improvement and turn around management within life science, telecommunications, and internet related industries.
From June 1999 to December 2001, Steve was Vice President of Sales and Business development for Zyan Communications, Inc., and national IP service provider, where he led a 120 person national sales team. From April 1998 to May 1999, Mr. Barbee was Regional Director at Level 3 Communications, Inc., a national IP backbone company, where he managed facility buildout and staffing for Los Angeles, Orange County, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. From October 1996 to April 1998, Steve was Sales Director and Regional Sales Manager of ICG Telecom Group, a competitive local exchange company, where he focused on Los Angeles sales operations. From June 1989 to September 1996, Mr. Barbee held various sales management positions with AT&T, an international long distance company. Steve holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO.
Martin Forbes Vice President, US Sales
Martin has 20 years experience in global sales, channel management and customer service in Healthcare. He is recognized for his unprecedented worldwide business experience, successfully developing emerging markets in Asia, Europe and Latin America and delivering outstanding global sales growth in both oncology and radiology for industry leaders Siemens and Toshiba.
His most recent position was Vice President of Global Sales for the Oncology Care Systems division of Siemens Healthcare headquartered in Concord, California. Under his sales leadership, the business experienced a two-year record growth, establishing a benchmark of half a billion dollars in total orders in 2008.
From 2000 to 2006, Martin was the Director of International Sales of the Oncology Care Systems Group of Siemens Healthcare. He was responsible for establishing and growing the company’s international oncology business. He developed regional infrastructure in China, Japan, India and Brazil to support aggressive expansion and established market leadership positions in each of these markets.
Prior to working in Siemens, Martin held sales and customer service management positions in Toshiba Medical Systems (Japan) and Diasonics MRI, Inc.
Martin is known for his highly motivational management style and his ability to build loyal, high-performance teams. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bristol, England and studied Computer Science at University of San Francisco.
Greg Loney Vice President, Instrumentation
Gregory C. Loney is the Vice-President of Engineering, Instruments at Bioimagene. Prior to joining Bioimagene, Greg served as Vice-President of R&D/Engineering at Intuity Medical (formerly Rosedale Medical), an early-stage medical device startup. He was also Vice-President of R&D Instruments and Robotics at Affymetrix Corporation. Greg has greater than 20 years experience in product development and the manufacture of optical, imaging and robotic instrument systems used in the metrology and life-sciences markets. Previous to joining Affymetrix he held executive business and engineering management roles within GSI Lumonics. In addition, he spent six years as a Full Staff Member at MIT Lincoln Laboratory innovating complex optical tracking systems. Greg has a BSME from University of California at Santa Barbara, MSME from Lehigh University, PA and an MBA from the Anderson School, University of California at Los Angeles.
Robert Monroe, MD, PhD Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Monroe is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in cytopathology, anatomic pathology and clinical pathology. He received his degrees in medicine and genetics from Harvard Medical School. He subsequently completed residency training in pathology at Stanford University and the UCLA Medical Center followed by a fellowship in cytopathology at UCLA.
Prior to joining BioImagene, Dr. Monroe worked as a pathologist for Central Coast Pathology Consultants where he was responsible for a wide variety of surgical and biopsy pathology cases as well as leading cytopathology and molecular pathology programs. During his tenure with Central Coast Pathology, he also served as the co-director of pathology at Marian Medical Center. Over the years, Dr. Monroe has consulted for various companies including Oncologic, BioAsia and Corporate Venture Partners.
Dr. Monroe is the recipient of many honors including the Modell Prize for Graduate Research in Immunology awarded by the Harvard Medical School Program in Immunology. He has published numerous articles for peer reviewed journals and has shared his expertise through various lectures and presentations locally and nationally.
Vivek Pathak Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer
Vivek is responsible for corporate finance and accounting, operations, strategic planning and legal functions at BioImagene. Before joining BioImagene, Vivek developed the finance and operations infrastructure for Cast Iron Systems, Inc. He was Vice President, Finance & Administration for Coreon, Inc. a Kleiner Perkins investment in telecom services, where he raised $15M in debt and $58M in equity financing. He built Coreon Inc. from its early stages to a 200 employee organization. Vivek held various management positions with Cummins, Inc. and is experienced in diverse areas like finance, international channel management, M&A and divestitures, JV and OEM deals in US, Mexico, France and India. In Mexico, he led a financial turn-around of Cummins owned distributorship in Guadalajara. He repeated this achievement as CFO of Cummins' software subsidiary in US. Vivek received his MBA in Finance from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and BA (Honors) in History from St. Stephen's College at University of Delhi, India.
Bikash Sabata Chief Technology Officer
Bikash comes to BioImagene with over 15 years of experience in developing imaging and computer vision architecture and algorithms. He brings a strong combination of technology research in academic settings and product development in startups. He most recently held the position of Co Founder and CTO at Aginova Inc, where his responsibilities included developing corporate vision, formation of the executive team, product architecture and development and revenue generation. In his roles as the cofounder of Primitive Root and the principal scientist at Peakstone Inc., he developed innovative applications of machine learning to distributed systems for predictive modeling and security. He was a scientist at SRI International and then at Information Extraction and Transport Inc where he spearheaded the R&D activities in Bayesian Network applications to Computer Vision, and Distributed systems.
Bikash has patents in the area of information systems. His works on distributed and autonomous systems, computer vision and parallel computing, have been widely published. He holds a Masters and a Ph.D in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He has a Bachelors degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay.
Doug Sweet Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Doug has 30+ years of experience in Business Development, Marketing and Sales for companies in the Diagnostic Industry – both Clinical and Anatomic Pathology, Life Science and BioPharma. For the last three years, he was the VP of Marketing and Sales for Celerus Diagnostics where he created a Sales, Marketing and Customer Care team to launch a revolutionary IHC system. Prior to joining Celerus, Doug has held various executive positions in Business Development and Sales/Marketing at Ventana Medical Systems, Dako Corporation, BioPath Corporation, Molecular Devices, as well as Syva, an early stage division of Syntex Corporation. Doug has also worked at New England Nuclear and Corning Medical as well as consulted for Agilent Technologies, Exagen Diagnostics, HistoRx, BioImagene, Pathworks Diagnostics and Spring BioSystems.
Doug holds a BS in Biology from the University of Oregon and an MBA from the Presidential Key Executive program at Pepperdine University.
Mohan Uttarwar Chief Strategy Officer
Mohan is a co-founder of BioImagene and a Silicon Valley entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in establishing high technology start-ups. Mohan was the co-founder of Roamware Inc. and was the president and founder of SoftPlus, a leading provider of eCRM software for telecom carriers around the world. In February 2000, SoftPlus was sold to US Interactive for $360 million. Before starting SoftPlus, Mohan co-founded and served as the president of Digital Tools Inc., a leader in enterprise project and resource management software. He has held various software development and management positions with Hewlett Packard and Intel. Mohan holds a Masters Degree in Computer Science from the Florida Institute of Technology and a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Bombay University in Mumbai. He is a charter member of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs), a Silicon Valley-based forum for entrepreneurs. He is on the board of IDE - a leading non-profit devoted to the eradication of rural poverty worldwide.
Steve Yu Vice President, Technology Solutions
Steve provides the intellectual direction of BioImagene's image informatics solutions and is responsible for pre-sales, support, product development, professional services and partnerships. Steve has over 15 years of industrial experience in large scale enterprise software solutions at both start-up and large corporations. Before joining BioImagene, Steve was Director of Engineering at Scimagix where he was responsible for the image management platform. Steve was the Director of engineering at Jamcracker where he built a Utility Computing Portal from inception to deployment. He has held technical leadership positions at Aspect Telecommunication in Call Center development, Acer America in Desktop Utility, and Compuware Corporation in client-server tools division. Steve received two Master's degrees from University of Wisconsin in Computer Science and Industrial Engineering. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree from National Taiwan University.
