UCB GROUP ADOPTS SCIMAGIX'S
IMAGE INFORMATICS SOFTWARE SOLUTION
Global Pharmaceutical Company Selects
SIMS® and ProteinMine™ to
Manage Valuable Image Data.
SAN MATEO, Calif. – August
19, 2003 - Scimagix™ Inc.,
a pioneer of enterprise image informatics
solutions for pharmaceutical and
biotechnology research and development
(R&D), today announced that the
UCB Group, a global pharmaceutical
and specialty chemical company, has
selected Scimagix as its Image Informatics
software provider. The UCB Group
integrated Scimagix's flagship Scientific
Image Management Systems (SIMS™)
platform as well as its ProteinMine™ within
its existing infrastructure in order
to better manage the influx of image
and associated alphanumeric data
resulting from scientific toxicology
and pathology projects.
SIMS™ is the only open, scalable,
Web-deployed enterprise-wide image
management system that enables compliance
with 21 CFR Part 11 standards for electronic
data submission to the FDA, in addition
to supporting the French CNIL requirements
for patient confidentiality. “As
a multi-site software system, customized
to image data, SIMS™ allows the
UCB Group to search, mine, analyze
and share results within its UCB Pharma
SA branch located in Brussels, Belgium,” said
Dr. Michael Canning, Head, Global Product
Safety & Metabolism for UCB Pharma.
ProteinMine™, the leading research
tool used for quantitative analysis
of protein expression in two-dimensional
(2D) electrophoresis gels, is the first
and only Oracle-based, web-access method
for searching, validating and analyzing
different protein expression patterns.
Additionally, with ProteinMine™ running
on top of SIMS™, the UCB Group
can increase the accuracy and productivity
of their R&D processes.
“One of our goals as a pharmaceutical
and specialty chemical company, was
to create a fully integrated proteomics
platform,” said Dr. Pierre Chatelain,
Head of In Vitro Pharmacology. “Scimagix's
SIMS™ platform and ProteinMine™ tool
formed a solid image informatics foundation,
on which we were able to create a functional
proteomics platform. ProteinMine's
ability to efficiently analyze 2D gels
as well as the tight integration between
the SIMS™ platform will help
us expedite our research.”
"Pharmaceutical and drug discovery
companies are looking for cost-effective
ways to expedite the drug research
and development processes within a
regulatory environment," said
Robert Dunkle, president and CEO of
Scimagix. "By integrating ProteinMine™ and
SIMS™ within their existing architecture,
the UCB Group benefits from a regulatory
compliant image informatics system
that enables collaboration among researchers
as well as accelerated drug discovery
and development. We are pleased that
the UCB Group has chosen Scimagix to
help institute accurate drug discovery
for a faster decision-making process.”
Image informatics is the integration
of valuable image and non-image data
to better understand biology and reach
better decisions. SIMS™ is the
only open, scalable, Web-deployed enterprise
image management system that enables
compliance with 21 CFR Part 11 standards
for electronic data submission to the
FDA. The enterprise-wide, multi-site
software system, designed for image
data, allows scientists to search,
mine, analyze and share results.
