BioImagene and Scimagix Merge to Provide Comprehensive Image Analysis and Informatics Solutions

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 2004--BioImagene and Scimagix are pleased to announce their merger. The combination of BioImagene's core competency in image analysis with Scimagix' image management and data mining technology address major pain-points in the discovery and histo-pathology markets. Together, they will provide complete, integrated solutions for gels, cells and tissues, from initial analysis to data mining and post-hoc analysis. This comprehensive, web-enabled suite of products is a major step toward the companies' joint goal of enabling digital discovery and histo-pathology.

"Scimagix provides a very good strategic fit with BioImagene. Together we have a critical mass of technology, products, customers and partners that positions us as a leading player in the marketplace," said Mohan Uttarwar, President and CEO of BioImagene, and of the combined company going forward.

"This is a major step toward the fulfillment of image informatics' promise of advancing science, technology and health care. BioImagene and Scimagix together will extend and amplify these benefits. The combined offerings will be very valuable to our customers. They will facilitate a seamless work flow resulting in higher through-put and higher productivity, translating into improved discovery and tissue analysis processes and outcomes," said Robert Dunkle, President of Scimagix.

And customers of both BioImagene and Scimagix agree. "I'm very encouraged about the merging of these technology platforms," said Bruce Keyt, VP of Preclinical Development at Abgenix, and a customer of both companies. "It relieves me of concerns regarding reinventing the wheel. We won't have to worry about integration challenges when we use Scimagix' storage and data mining tools for the data we get from BioImagene's quantitation and analysis. This will broaden our information transfer technology. We've worked a great deal with both Scimagix and BioImagene. These technologies working together will provide very powerful tools for evaluating therapeutic antibodies at Abgenix."

The combined company will provide all existing customers with ongoing support, maintenance and further development of both companies' product lines.
