BioImagene launches iLearn -
eLearning using digital pathology, in partnership with
i-Path Diagnostics
Booth 206, CAP 2008 – The Pathologists Meeting™,
San Diego, CA, Sept 25, 2008
Cupertino, CA, September 25, 2008
BioImagene, the Silicon Valley based digital pathology solutions
company, launched iLearn™ - a new online educational
offering for pathologists, in partnership with i-Path Diagnostics – a
UK based biomedical software company. iLearn provides educational
modules for Histopathology and Cytopathology for residents
and experienced pathologists.
Developed by i-Path and eminent pathologists, iLearn brings
internet technology and the convenience of online education
into pathology training, supplementing the traditional learning
methods of trainee pathologists. A combination of high quality
digital images, sophisticated e-learning tools and streaming
video are used to deliver virtual case material in pathology.
Dr. Peter Hamilton of i-Path Diagnostics, explains the key
advantage of iLearn “It allows residents to practice
techniques independently, on-line, at anytime, anyplace using
authenticated pathology cases. The streaming instructional
video is almost like having the expert sitting beside you
and teaching you.”
BioImagene CEO Mohan Uttarwar commented,” iLearn is
comprehensive, easy to use and has the potential to transform
pathology education.” The entire content has been validated
by the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA).
Dr Debra Graves, RCPA’s CEO, says “With the shortage
of pathologists, these aids can be extremely helpful in assisting
the trainees. These e-learning modules are an important training
platform for pathologists as well as for proficiency testing
and competency assessment.”
iLearn also helps qualified pathologists by providing standardized
assessments for ongoing professional development. In the
UK, i-Path’s modules have been approved by the Royal
College of Pathologists (RCPath) for Continuing Professional
Development (CPD), the equivalent of CME in the US.
“The system’s value lies in its explicit teaching
of the vital steps that lead to good pathology practices” commented
Professor Richard Williams, Director of Anatomical Pathology
at Melbourne’s St Vincent’s Hospital.
