BioImagene Launches PathXchange, an Online Global Pathology Community

PathXchange™ will be demonstrated by BioImagene at Booth 802 at the USCAP Annual Meeting 2009

Cupertino, Calif. March 09, 2009

BioImagene, the leading provider of innovative digital pathology solutions, today announced the launch of PathXchange.org, a professional networking portal for pathologists worldwide. The portal facilitates the exchange of information about pathology cases and is designed for pathologists to stay connected with their professional network, keep their professional knowledge current, and contribute to advancement of the global pathology community.

Dr. Allen Gown, medical director and chief pathologist, PhenoPath Laboratories, explained, “Technology is revolutionizing the art and science of pathology, both in the nature of the tests we can offer, as well as the methods at our disposal to disseminate information generated by these new technologies. This new pathology portal is an excellent example of the latter, as it can foster e-learning, case sharing and telepathology, bringing together the eyes and minds of pathologists who find themselves in disparate locations. Ultimately, all these technologies promise to not only enhance the practice of pathology, but also to dramatically improve patient care.”

Pathologists who join this community have access to a number of tools designed to support the exchange of knowledge and ideas, including:

  • Case Gallery - Members can share cases online by creating their own photo gallery of case slides
  • Case Reviews - At the end of each month, a case review committee will review member cases and publish the case of the month
  • e-Learning - The site will offer tutorials and course material, reference material and community contributed information
  • Member Networks - Members will have the ability to build their own networks to follow and share cases and slides

“The field of pathology is transitioning into the digital age,” commented Mohan Uttarwar, founder and chief strategy officer for BioImagene. “We are pleased to offer this online network to the pathology community to facilitate improved communication among colleagues and the sharing of expertise using Web 2.0 tools and features.”

“The role of digital pathology has been truly transformational,” said Ajit Singh, PhD., chief executive officer of BioImagene. “PathXchange will benefit pathologists by helping them gain instant access to a global knowledge base.”

Pathologists can view a demonstration at BioImagene’s Booth 802 at the USCAP Annual Meeting 2009, which takes place in Boston from March 7 - 13, 2009.
