Overview
The
large amounts of images generated in research laboratories
today have created a need for image quantification and
analysis as well as searching and data mining capabilities.
Without these capabilities, it is impossible to effectively
mine and use the data generated by hundreds or thousands
of gels.
ProteinMine™
ProteinMine™ is a web based 2D gel analysis software that uses the industry’s most current and sophisticated algorithms for analysis. It speeds decision-making by reducing the likelihood of choosing unworthy proteins. ProteinMine™ rapidly identifies significant differences in protein expression between two gels or among hundreds of gels. All data can be easily accessed, mined and analyzed through ProteinMine’s™ central image and data repository.

How ProteinMine can help your research
ProteinMine™ helped one research group determine
that a compound that appeared to have in
vitro potential for inhibition of topoisomerase
(acting similarly to novobiocin) actually
had a different MOA. In vivo results indicated
that the protein expression pattern resulting
from treatment with this new compound was
a closer match to an unfavorable compound.
Result: The customer redirected the efforts
of six chemists to another, more promising
compound at a considerable time and cost
savings.
Eliminating
Problem Compounds Early:
A ProteinMine custom solution using BioImagene SIMS™ image managment
Once ProteinMine has retrieved a set of
gels with similar patterns from a SIMS™ image management database, the challenge is determining what the similarities may mean. A customized image-driven SAR (required customization by the BioImagene Professional Services Group) can help by giving scientists a way to relate the 2D gel data to other, related data of different types. By customizing SIMS™ to
link it to other databases, researchers can
look at data in the context of other image
and non-image data. The ability to link images
with other proteomics or genomics data provides
a broader picture of how protein expression
relates to a compound's biological impact.
